TV Constellation---Finalist Proposal---2005

Site:
Wilshire-Vermont Development/ Los Angeles, CA
Dimensions:
80'H x 65'W

In this finalist proposal, the tilted walls of a large-scale residential building symbolize the realm of home, while the subway entrance symbolizes the realm of work. The array of small LED modules on the surfaces of the tilted wall---networked to display random subsets of the advertising---suggests a network of influence extending outward from the large advertising LED screens. This pixelization of the video image suggests media fragmentation and the inattention of TV audiences.

The inhabitation of home is suggested by multicultural icons which portray various residential activities, located at each floor level of the building facade. The inhabitation of the work realm is suggested by icons which portray work and transit activities, located around the subway entrance. These icons would be rendered in photo-luminescent paint---glow-in-the dark---recharging during the daytime and glowing brightly, then slowly fading, during the night.
